[Becoming a tree – Guided body movement and Meditation workshop]

This is the fourth workshop belonging to this year’s GAP Regional Core and Distinctive research project “From the Body of Things to Their Whisper - Ki”.

Like trees, the human body acts as a conduit for transporting matter, nutrients, and energy: we all draw nourishment from the earth, transform it into other forms of matter through our bodies, and return it to nature. The energy generated in this process becomes the driving force behind our actions (body) and thoughts (spirit).
This activity aims to experience the energy of trees: sit quietly in the forest, embrace the trunks, imagine yourself as a tree, and feel the constant cycle within them. Imagine the roots absorbing nutrients from the depths, transporting them to each leaf, and then the fallen leaves returning to the soil.

Become a tree, breathe and grow like a tree, communicate with trees, and resonate with nature.

In rural Japan, there is an ancient custom called yui, in which neighbors gather together to help each other without payment when labor is needed, such as for planting rice or replacing thatched roofs.
This Workshop was planned with the desire to create a space where people could gather and have conversations through the activities of farming and eating, and to make people feel that primary industries are something close to them by producing and consuming rice crackers using rice grown on the Toride Campus.

Conducted by: Urara Sumida (GAP M2)
Participants: Open to both university students and the general public

In rural Japan, there is an ancient custom called yui, in which neighbors gather together to help each other without payment when labor is needed, such as for planting rice or replacing thatched roofs.
This Workshop was planned with the desire to create a space where people could gather and have conversations through the activities of farming and eating, and to make people feel that primary industries are something close to them by producing and consuming rice crackers using rice grown on the Toride Campus.

Conducted by: Urara Sumida (GAP M2)
Participants: Open to both university students and the general public

Planning and Management: Global Art Practice (GAP)
Organized by: Tokyo University of the Arts
Supported by: Toride Art Project Office (NPO)
Partnership: Geidai Arts Project Training (Toride Course) / R7 Regional Core and Distinctive Research University Strengthening Promotion Project
